Global Packaging Manufacturer Selects Indiana For Second US Plant Location
CANPACK set to hire more than 345 new employees in Delaware County
CANPACK Group, a subsidiary of Giorgi Global Holdings Inc. and a global manufacturer of aluminum beverage cans and packaging solutions for foods and beverages, announced plans today to locate new operations in central Indiana, creating at least 345 new jobs by the end of 2023.
“Indiana’s economy is increasingly global, and we are excited to welcome yet another international company to the Hoosier state,” said Governor Eric J. Holcomb. “Dynamic manufacturing companies like CANPACK continue to elevate our reputation as a leader in the manufacturing sector, and I’m extremely grateful they’ve chosen our state to call home.”
CANPACK, headquartered in Poland, will invest more than $380 million to construct an 862,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art aluminum beverage can body manufacturing facility at 2451 W. Fusion Road in Muncie. The new facility will enable the company to continue its expansion into the U.S. and serve its Midwest customer base. The company expects to break ground on the plant in mid-2021 and be fully operational by December 2022.
“Under Governor Eric Holcomb’s leadership, Indiana has been making record investments in workforce and education, maintaining its fiscal discipline and developing strong and resilient communities,” said Peter Giorgi, president and CEO of Giorgi Global Holdings Inc. “We chose to expand here because of Indiana’s strong economy and very business-friendly environment. We thank Gov. Holcomb for his warm welcome.”
Over the past 30-plus years, CANPACK has grown from a single steel food can manufacturing site in Poland to a multinational packaging manufacturer with 28 locations including sites in Europe, South America, India, Africa and the Middle East. The company’s first U.S. facility will soon be operational in Pennsylvania. CANPACK employs nearly 8,000 associates worldwide and will begin hiring for skilled and semi-skilled manufacturing and plant management positions in mid-2022.
“Delaware County has an excellent team in place to help ensure that we are competitive with the thousands of sites available for companies like this to locate,” said James King, president of the Delaware County Commissioners. “I’m excited to welcome CANPACK and the addition of the excellent paying jobs that they are bringing to our community. The current County Commissioners are committed to making sure that our county’s tax base continues to grow and future generations have a myriad of diversified employment options.”
Pending approval of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) board of directors, the IEDC will offer CANPACK US LLC up to $4.7 million in conditional tax credits and up to $300,000 in conditional training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. The IEDC will also offer up to $1 million from the Hoosier Business Investment (HBI) tax credit program based on the company’s planned capital investment in Indiana. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning the company is eligible to claim incentives once Hoosiers are hired and trained and investments are made. Delaware County and the Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance provided additional support.
Indiana is a leader in manufacturing, with 9,000 manufacturing facilities and the highest concentration of manufacturing jobs in the nation. Training initiatives like Next Level Jobs include a powerful advanced manufacturing track dedicated to automation and robotics technology. As a result, Indiana boasts a deep, highly skilled workforce, with 20% of Hoosiers working in advanced manufacturing — well above the national average.
